Spartacus training reaches thousands. New course announcement.

Care to share?

It has been a little while since we shared any updates about Spartacus training, so I just wanted to check back in and let you know how things are going and share some news.

Firstly, we haven’t been posting because we’ve been overwhelmed with interest in the project. We’ve been busy with our first fully online training sessions for Spartacus, both as part of the open-source community—contributing to the technology we love—and with companies who want to get the most from Spartacus and have invited us to share our knowledge.

OpenSAP Spartacus courses

It was a real privilege to be asked to design and host a course for OpenSAP. Our first online training took opened on 16 June 2020 and the number of participants was absolutely staggering; it just confirmed to us the appetite there is for this technology. Over 2,000 people joined at the start of the course and the total number of people who have taken part is close to 3,000.

You can view the ‘Routing in Spartacus’ course here. It takes only about 3 hours to complete and you don’t need to take our word on whether it is worth it, as users have been kind enough to rate it at 4.36 stars out of 5.

The course is for people who are familiar with Spartacus and newbies. You’ll learn how to set up a Spartacus storefront from scratch and then how to extend it in eight units: Introduction to Routing, Installation, Enabling Context in the Storefront URL, Adding Content Pages, Customizing Routes, Using Router Links, Hands-On Exercises, and Sample Solution for the Exercises

New OpenSAP course announced

The big news is that, based on the success of our first OpenSAP course, we will share more about Spartacus in future editions. The second course, An Introduction to Sparta, hosted by myself, Louis Pierrestiger, and Tobias Ouwejan (founder and architect of Spartacus), starts on 30 September 2020 and enrollments are already open.

From the title, you can probably guess that this course is for people who are new to Spartacus. We’ll be looking at the reasons for its existence, the technologies it uses, and an overview of its architecture. However, we also think that even experienced SAP Spartacus developers will gain something from this high-level knowledge, so we encourage you to join the 1,800+ people who have signed up in just the first few days. Once again, the interest in Spartacus blows us away!

Spartacus online training courses for businesses

A lot of our time has also been spent over the last few months redesigning Spartacus Training courses to fit an online-only model. It was an option that we already planned to introduce before the global health crisis but the situation focused our efforts and we managed to create a robust online course and have run our first fully online sessions with Sybit and other companies in recent months.

The format was different from the more intensive in-house sessions we previously ran. However, there were a lot of benefits. Doing 6 sessions spread over 3 weeks gave time for participants to digest the information, experiment with what they had learned, and engage with the trainer on an ongoing basis with questions and opinions. The more intimate groups allowed for a lot of one-on-one time with the tutor and we could see how valuable that was.

“What we liked about the remote training was the profound know-how and openness of the trainer. The training was very well structured with plenty of practical exercises. Special requirements on our side were always covered and discussed thoroughly. The different levels of experience of our training participants were also taken into account. Our team quickly learned everything necessary to complete our first projects with Spartacus. The remote training was especially valuable for us during the coronavirus pandemic and could easily keep up with an on-site training course. In the future, we will certainly have more developers trained by Divante.”

Jan Rode, Software Engineering Manager at Sybit GmbH

We’ll be back very soon with more technical and business content on Spartacus on our blog. For now, we are busy getting more people on board and driving the growth of the platform. Exciting times indeed.
